Message from Principal

Hello Southport Dolphin Stakeholders,

I hope you're all having a fantastic summer so far! My name is Jodie Pender, and I am absolutely thrilled to be here as the new principal of Southport Elementary School. This is an incredible community that I am excited to be a part of!
I have proudly served Brunswick County Schools for the past 20 years in a variety of roles, including classroom teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. These experiences have strengthened my belief that strong relationships and a supportive learning environment are the foundation of student success.  I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Spanish and my Master's in School Administration from UNC-W (Go Seahawks!). Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and dogs, running, boating, fishing, and swimming.
I truly believe that every child has unique strengths and unlimited potential. My commitment is to foster a caring and supportive environment where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to grow academically, socially, and emotionally every day.
As we begin this journey together, I want our students, staff, families, and community to know that I value open communication and collaboration. My door is always open to listen, learn, and support.  Whether you're a student with an idea, a parent with a question,  a teacher with a suggestion, or a community member with a plan, I am here to listen and support you. Together, we can make Southport Elementary a place where learning is fun, curiosity is celebrated, and kindness is the norm.
